Commercial Switchgear, Busduct & Underground Duct Bank Engineering
Electrical Dynamics, Inc. engineers, rigs, and commissions heavy 480Y/277V and 208Y/120V primary service entrances, multi-section switchboards (1,200A–4,000A+), industrial plug-in busways, and concrete-encased underground utility duct banks for biotech campuses, R&D facilities, and manufacturing plants across Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire.
Turnkey 480Y/277V Main Switchgear & Double-Ended Substations
Modern life-science laboratories, additive manufacturing facilities, and enterprise corporate campuses require high-fault-current-rated main service switchgear engineered for selective coordination and zero unplanned downtime. As an Eaton Certified Contractor with 35 Years of field execution, EDI manages long-lead switchgear procurement, rigging, housekeeping pad layout, ground-fault protection of equipment (GFPE per NEC 230.95), and Arc Energy Reduction (NEC 240.87) commissioning.
- 1,200A, 2,000A, 3,000A, and 4,000A+ UL 891 Dead-Front Switchboards and UL 1558 Metal-Enclosed Low-Voltage Power Circuit Breaker Switchgear.
- 65 kAIC to 100 kAIC symmetrical short-circuit current ratings (SCCR) with electronic trip units (LSIG) and Zone Selective Interlocking (ZSI).
- Maintenance Mode (Energy-Reducing Maintenance Switching) and arc-flash boundary labeling per NFPA 70E and IEEE 1584.
- Revenue-grade utility CT/PT metering cabinets built to Eversource Electric Information & Requirements (EIR), National Grid ESB 750, and municipal light department standards.
Concrete-Encased Underground Utility Duct Banks & Primary Vaults
From our multi-conduit duct bank installation at 400 Wheeler Road in Burlington to multi-building corporate campuses in Natick and Framingham, EDI self-performs trench layout, spacer-rack assembly, mandrel testing, and high-tension cable pulling between utility pole risers, precast manholes, pad-mounted transformers, and interior main switchgear rooms.
- Multi-way 4" to 6" Schedule 40 / Schedule 80 PVC and fiberglass (FRE) duct banks with rebar reinforcement and red-dyed concrete encasement.
- Long-radius rigid galvanized steel (RGS) and PVC-coated Robroy sweeps to eliminate cable jacket sidewall pressure during high-tension winch pulls.
- Precast utility transformer pads, oil-containment grounding grids (counterpoise rings and exothermic Cadweld bonds), and primary/secondary pull boxes.
- Mandrel proving, duct swabbing, and Megger insulation-resistance testing (1,000V DC) prior to utility energization.
High-Amperage Industrial Feeder & Plug-In Busduct Replacements
For high-density manufacturing plants and flexible R&D bays—such as our high-amperage busduct replacement for Sekisui Voltek in Lawrence and overhead trapeze racks at Desktop Metal in Burlington—overhead busway systems deliver superior voltage-drop performance and modular plug-in tap flexibility.
- 400A to 4,000A copper and aluminum feeder busway and plug-in busduct risers.
- Phased weekend/overnight live plant cutovers utilizing temporary generator power to eliminate manufacturing downtime.
- Baseline FLIR infrared thermographic scanning and calibrated torque-seal verification on every busbar splice joint.
