Case Study: The MathWorks Apple Hill West Campus (AH-1) & 139 kW Commercial Solar PV Array
1. Engineering Challenge & Facility Requirements
The MathWorks—global developer of MATLAB and Simulink technical computing software—required a multi-discipline electrical, telecommunications, life-safety, and renewable energy partner for its Apple Hill West Campus (AH-1) in Natick, MA. The project demanded high-reliability power for engineering workstations and server rooms, high-density Cat6A/fiber cabling, architectural workspace lighting, and a high-output commercial rooftop solar photovoltaic array executed without disrupting ongoing software operations.
2. Electrical Dynamics Technical Execution
Electrical Dynamics deployed a unified Division 26, 27, and 28 project team. Our electrical construction crews installed primary 480Y/277V distribution, server room PDUs, architectural linear and recessed LED lighting controls, and an addressable NFPA 72 fire alarm system. Simultaneously, EDI Network Systems built out the IDF/MDF telecommunications rooms and horizontal structured cabling, while our Sustainable Solutions division engineered and commissioned a 139 kW commercial rooftop solar PV array interconnected with Eversource.
3. Verified Project Outcomes
- Delivered turnkey corporate headquarters workspace power, lighting controls, and BICSI-certified telecommunications across Apple Hill West (AH-1).
- Commissioned the 139 kW commercial rooftop solar PV installation producing 158,940 kWh of clean electricity per year.
- Generated $22,252 in verified annual electricity cost savings while advancing corporate sustainability benchmarks.
